Please join me in welcoming PBHS's newest educational
partner, HSBC-The world's local bank. HSBC operates an
international network of banking institutions with over 9,500
offices in 76 countries and territories around the world.
We're extremely excited about this partnership. In addition
to financial support, HSBC will be opening savings accounts
for each of our monthly Sun-Sentinel 'Kids of Character'
winners. They will also be working with our International
Finance classes to develop a global finance project and will
be offering one of our students an internship at the bank.
Our local branch is located at 301 N. Federal Highway, less
than a 1/4 mile from the school. Thomas Nicalakokas, VP, who
was instrumental in securing this partnership, is thrilled by
this opportunity to work with PBHS students. “We’re very
pleased about this exciting new partnership and we’re looking
forward to working with such a talented group of students”,
Mr. Nicolakokas said.

Attendance Policy When students know that they are
going to be absent, they MUST COMPLETE a permitted absence
form PRIOR TO the absence. The form can be picked up in
guidance. Teachers, an administrator and a parent must sign
the form so that teachers can prepare the make-up work for the
student to complete. Students are reminded that family
vacations COUNT TOWARD the 30 hour rule and will not be
excused, but students will still be allowed to make up the
work...thanks.

Dear Parents and Students,
“Above and Beyond” are only words unless you give them real
meaning. These past weeks, Pompano Beach High School went
truly “Above and Beyond.” We are still talking and reflecting
on our recent visit by President Bill Clinton. So many
students, teachers, and staff came together to make this a
successful event on our campus. From the band to JROTC,
Student Government to the PBHS TV Team, it was the kind of
real-life experience that is too often talked about but never
experienced. As one student wrote in a reflection of the day,
“Having the rally at our school is considered a privilege to
me and is an experience I will never forget.”
The following week Mr. Weigel’s class, in conjunction with
JROTC and Ms. Rhoades in the Media Center, delivered an
outstanding tribute recognizing our veterans for Veterans’
Day. Looking across our campus at the 3,142 U.S. flags
assembled on our lawn could only make me proud to be the
principal of a school with such an outstanding student body,
faculty, and staff. What a great lesson and more importantly,
what a great tribute to so many brave Americans.
Congratulations to Mr. King and everyone involved in this
week’s Code Orange drill. A Code Orange is when we evacuate
the entire campus to the football stadium while police, fire
and rescue do a complete search of our buildings. In our
de-briefing with Pompano Beach Fire Department we continually
heard how mature and responsible our students were in
conducting this drill. Please continue to stress to your
children the importance of taking every drill seriously, as if
their life depended on it. One day it might.
Winter sports are here. For the best soccer and basketball
in town check our web site for the schedule of upcoming games.
Every parent of our players needs to make sure that their son
or daughter sees them at least once in the stands. There isn’t
anything on TV or between 5 pm and 9 pm that is more important
than cheering your child on.
Finally, Interim Reports will be distributed to our
students on Tuesday, November 21st. If you have specific
questions and concerns, please contact the teacher or make an
appointment through Guidance for a conference. More
importantly, talk to your child about how school is going.
Make sure they elaborate on what they’re learning. In other
words don’t accept “It’s OK.”
Hope everyone has a safe and restful Thanksgiving. Take
care.
With regards,
Dave Gordon Principal |
