Pompano Beach High School shows its commitment to reading by providing every one of our students with a summer reading novel. We know that reading enhances learning in every subject area by providing background knowledge, expanding vocabulary, and stimulating thinking. We are excited to offer our students a choice of books for their
grade level. All current 9th, 10th and 11th graders have the opportunity
to make their selections at school. Novels will be delivered to students
before the school year is over. Books will be collected in the media
center when students return to school in August. If a student fails
to return the book checked out to him/her, a financial obligation
will
be incurred. (Ninth graders have already picked up their novel during
orientation.) Parents can help their child to enjoy summer reading by asking questions about the book, a favorite character, a confusing part, a favorite phrase or passage, or just a summary of what has been read. Some parents may even want to enhance their own summer by reading the book, too! Be sure to click on the link to see our summer reading activities. If you have any questions, please call our Reading Coach, Susan Atlas, at 754-322-2000. |

Online School Payments The Broward County School District has developed a faster and more efficient way to accept payments from parents and students. The school board will begin accepting online payments for school sponsored activities, such as yearbook, field trips, fundraisers, etc. The users of the online system must have a Student ID number available before they begin. (All students have been issued a unique Student ID number. If this number is not available, please contact PBHS). Click here to start the online payment process. The Broward School District has become more innovative, and we appriciate feedback received from parents and students regarding this online payment initiative. You will find the online payment option safe, simple, and convenient. If you have questions or comments regarding online payments, please contact Nell Johnson in the International Accounts Office at (754) 321 - 0589. |

APPLE DISTINGUISHED SCHOOL since 2007 Mr. John Couch, the Vice-President of Education for Apple has informed us that Pompano Beach High School has been selected as an Apple Distinguished School for 2008-2009. Pompano Beach High School is one of just eighteen schools Apple is recognizing nationwide and one of two in the state of Florida. This recognition could only be achieved by the efforts of the many great members of the PBHS Team. We know that this is a result of a vision we share with Apple: “a world in which all learners are empowered to discover their own special genius.” Congratulations PBHS! |

Attendance Policy during a Nine Week Period Phone calls will not be accepted. If an absence form is NOT completed on time, the absence will remain unexcused. If the absence is unexcused, the teacher has no responsibility to provide the student with make-up work. Tardies and early releases will also be considered unexcused without proper documentation. A student who exceeds the allotted time (440 minutes per class/1760 minutes per nine weeks) may receive an F in the class. These accrued minutes are a combination of absences, tardies, and early releases. Exceeding the allowable minutes requires the completion of the appeals process. The student and parent/guardian must complete the appeal form along with appropriate documentation and submit to the front office. This form will be reviewed by the attendance appeals committee. The committee determines if the absence, tardy, or early release will be excused or will remain unexcused. The student/parent/guardian will be informed of the decision. Forms may be submittted betwen 6:30 to 7:
00 am, during both lunches and from 3:05 pm to 3:45 pm. |
